context: a jacket gets 25% plus an additional 30% should equal 55%. but when one calculates it, 50% off the original price is much cheaper.

so how does a 55% discount add up to less than a 50% discount?

logically 55 is greater than 50, hence it should yield a greater amount of discount...shouldn't it?

it just doesn't make sense.
